About me
Welcome to Ross Wilson Photography – Outdoor Gear Reviews & Landscape Adventures
About Ross Wilson
I’m Ross Wilson. I am a dedicated landscape photographer based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Moreover, I test outdoor equipment for hiking and wild camping. Indeed, my passion lies in capturing the drama and beauty of nature.
For instance, I photograph everything from the rugged Lake District to the windswept coastlines of the UK. My goal is to create images that immerse viewers in each moment. Consequently, photography isn’t just about the final shot. It’s about embracing the journey, whether I’m waiting patiently for the perfect light or exploring new terrain.
Outdoor Gear Reviews & Testing
I do more than document breathtaking landscapes. In addition, I thoroughly test and review outdoor gear to help you choose equipment with confidence. Specifically, my hands-on experiences cover lightweight, durable essentials. These include the Rab Mythic Ultra jacket for cold nights and the Rab Cinder Downpour for wet weather.
Meanwhile, I also share insights on the MSR Access 2 tent for extreme mountain shelter. As a result, these reviews allow fellow adventurers and photographers to make well-informed decisions.
Why Landscape Photography?
I’m drawn to dramatic weather patterns, fleeting rays of sunlight, and untamed terrain. Thus, these raw elements fuel my creative process. Furthermore, venturing into the wild, setting up camp, and witnessing rare moments of atmospheric magic define my work. Consequently, this passion drives me to explore more, refine my craft, and discover new perspectives on each journey.
Long Exposure & Timelapse
Long exposure and timelapse add depth to my photography. Specifically, they capture moving clouds, flowing water, and shifting light. In addition, I often rely on my Lee deluxe kit, which includes the small, big, and super stoppers. This setup helps me achieve creative long-exposure effects.
These filters are a perfect piece of kit. They offer superior quality and minimal color cast, so I can maintain clarity and true-to-life colors during long exposures. Moreover, these techniques reveal subtle changes in our natural world—moments a single frame can’t convey.
My Kit List
If you want to see the gear I’m currently using for wild camping, check out my kit list. It includes my favorite tents, sleeping systems, cooking gear, and more. It provides a full breakdown of each item’s purpose, pros, and cons. This guide helps you assemble the perfect setup for your own adventures.
I also love Rab gear, and you can find more information on Rab’s official site.
A Balanced Life
My camera is almost always by my side, yet I also embrace life’s simpler joys. Indeed, great food, new cultures, and a fine whisky on the rocks remind me to seek balance. I also enjoy capturing wedding photography. It allows me to document heartfelt moments while bringing my storytelling approach to a couple’s big day.
Consequently, when I relax, I return to my art refreshed, ready to capture the ever-changing beauty that inspires me.
